HOW TO ELEVATE THE EVERYDAY

It feels like it’s been a particularly heavy week. You know sometimes you have those weeks where everything seems to chip away at your armour a little bit at a time until you feel a little less resilient than usual? That’s what this week has been for me. I couldn’t tell you why - it’s been a hundred little things that have left me feeling flat. This happens sometimes. And when it does I have to shift my mindset and introduce what I call ‘everyday elevators’ — the little things that take me from the mundane into a more elevated way of living.

Some call it romanticising life, I think this sounds a bit airy fairy — I like to be more strategic. I started doing this when I had my baby and became overwhelmed by how different my life had become and it made a huge difference to my happiness. Since then, I’ve applied it to my life as a whole, particularly my career and if I’m suffering from a bout of imposter syndrome or comparisonitits. It puts me back on an even keel and brings me back to the life I truly want to be living.

DECIDE WHO SHE IS
Before you start, have a think about who the best version of yourself is. Who is she? What does she like? How does she behave? What does she wear and watch? What does her daily routine look like? Try to not let logic and practicality stand in your way here, have fun with it and let your imagination run wild. It could be something very simple like, she’s confident in social situations or she takes her supplements every day without fail. There’s no wrong answer here. If it helps, write it down.

SOUNDTRACK YOUR LIFE
This is SUCH a simple one but instantly changes the game for me. It started by listening to classical music on my daily walks with my newborn. Even though I was so tired I wanted to cry, watching the trees with the sound of Gymnopedie in my ears made everything beautiful again. I still do this when I drive through the countryside to pick him up from nursery and it makes the drive so calming. On the flip side, cleaning my kitchen has to be old school hip hop and when I have a work deadline looming, you bet I’m breaking out something with a hard bass.

My favourite playlist at the moment for this is THIS

DON’T SAVE FOR BEST
How many outfits do you have in your wardrobe that you barely wear because it’s too dressy for daytime? Well, dust them off because in an elevated life we bring our A game. If something makes you feel great to wear, it’s never too dressy, over-the-top or inappropriate for the school run or the office. I will always feel like I’ve got my shit together when I’m rocking a structured blazer and a heel, wherever i am and whatever I’m doing.
