STYLING THE HUMBLE FLIP-FLOP

I’m a huge fan of a flip-flop. I don’t care what anyone else says. In fact, I had a comment on my Instagram post last summer (the image above) from someone who said “flip-flops aren’t luxury.” And it made me think of that comment Tom Ford made in 2011 that the footwear favourite are “never appropriate in urban city settings.” I had to include the date it was uttered here because I can’t help but think that such a criticism is somewhat out of date in 2025.

Rubber, leather, raffia, flip-flops have come a long way from the humble Havaiana (although these are still my steadfast favourite). Although historically we think of them worn with cargo trousers (I’m looking at you Jennifer Aniston), or at airports making that awful ‘flip-flop’ noise when we walk, it’s now a very different story.
